A scenic trip on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal was the chosen day out for the ladies and gentleman living at Stocks Hall, St Helens Care Home, recently.
Hosting the same trip across several days ensured that many of the people living at the Home all received the opportunity to experience this relaxing and pleasant safe boating experience. With hats on and plenty of sun cream applied, the small groups boarded the canal barge at Parbold, ready to begin their sedate cruise, heading up towards to Burscough.
Lucy Peters, Activities Staff said “We were lucky to have dry sunny days throughout the week, so it was wonderful for everyone to sit out at the front of the barge, if they so wished. ‘The Rose’ canal barge is disability friendly, as it has open plan with wheelchair access throughout.”
The various party groups each decided they would like a traditional chip shop meal for lunch, choosing their favourite combination from the menu. Sitting and watching the world go by together, they all enjoyed spending time each other’s company, with laugher and animated chatter comparing their favourite moments of Summer so far.
Afternoon tea was served on the return part of the journey home, and Lucy continued “It’s been a fantastic week with all the groups from Stocks Hall St Helens – it was so lovely to hear people comment on how perfect the day was from start to finish.”
