Stocks Hall, St Helens Home’s Christmas celebrations got in to full swing recently at the recent December event. Celebrations began with the fun of getting everyone on board the minibus in the snow – a real Christmas adventure, then transporting the group safely to the event.
The venue was decorated with the usual Christmas décor as Stocks Hall’s St Helens very own DJ, Terry Okee, set up stage with all colourful lighting, karaoke equipment and Christmas props. The event began with a warm Christmas welcome from Laura (Activities) dressed up in a Christmas angel costume and Laraine (Holistic Therapist) as Mrs Clause.
Seeing the staff in bright, colourful costumes was warmly welcomed and it helped to get everyone in the mood for the Home’s nativity performance, that followed. The cast and stars of the nativity performance, included a mixture of those living at the Home and staff members as follows:
Shepherds-Paul, Dave and Andy
The Kings- Maureen, Joan and Ann
Baby Jesus was one of the dolls donated from the charity who make the twiddles and the donkey was a colourful piñata.
Laraine narrated the nativity story behind the stage and when the music started, staff assisted anybody who wished and was able on to the dance floor. Dancing the time away, with support, helped each person to relax, enjoy, feel special and loved.
Following the nativity, the karaoke took place and persons living at the Home, sang some of their favourite songs. Ann sang Cilla Black, ‘You’re my world’, Joan sang, ‘Edelweiss’ and Maureen sang, ‘Anyone who had a heart’ by Cilla Black.
Laura says “The whole event was a real hit. It was brilliant to see the people, whose home Stocks Hall St Helens is, having such an enjoyable time in the club, and that’s what makes it so special.”
